Title:
Adam and Eve in Paradise exhibition label Narrative 1
Narrative: Bartolozzi’s print depicts the Biblical story of Adam and Eve before their fatal moment of expulsion from Paradise; here they are unaware of their nakedness and still have their innocence. They are intimate in their affection, surrounded by the gentle creatures of the garden, and are in complete harmony with their surroundings. The subject of Adam and Eve was often used in Renaissance art to depict the nude male and female figure before the introduction of fig leaves for the sake of modesty.
