Richard Earlom was one of the great masters of mezzotint. His first major commission was for Josiah Boydell the publisher, who in 1777 issued the Liber Veritatis, a set of 200 prints of landscapes in the style of Claude Lorrain. This is one of the plates from that publication. The scenes are not exact copies of Claude's drawings, but only imitate his style. Earlom must have had access to Claude's original Liber Veritatis, then in possession of the Duke of Devonshire.
