Title:
Le stryge (The vampire) exhibition label Narrative 1
Narrative: This etching’s title derives from the Latin word striga—a predatory night bird. An ominous flight of crows links a gargoyle on Notre-Dame Cathedral with the Tour Saint-Jacques, a major 16th-century monument and the kind of building threatened by the radical remodelling of the city of Paris undertaken in the mid-19th century.
